U.S. Demopolis Land Office - Surveyors' boundary line field notes, 18??.

United States General Land Office Surveyors General contracted with deputy surveyors to survey public lands before the lands could be offered for sale. These records consist of undated printed forms on which surveyors' notes were recorded. The forms include notes on the quality of soil, terrain and trees in the area. The forms are labeled "quality of land on the boundaries of the township," "quality of land on the interior section lines," "corners described on the boundaries of the township." This series consists of the survey of the present day Sumter and Washington Counties, Ala. These records add to an understanding of the wilderness area in Ala. before settlement.
